Restaurant Week Kicks Off in Newport
Restaurant week offerings, EarlyBird gets the Chorizo,It’s Fool’s Spring

Hello Back Bay Bichons, Happy Monday.
We are almost halfway through January, how many resolutions have we abandoned? Restaurant week arrives when our collective will to keep our NYE resolutions is at it’s weakest. The new breakfast burrito spot at The Lab has us wondering if maybe the beach should just accept the body I give it. Stay positive, and enjoy a sunny, warm week to sip your topo chico (which is sold out everywhere, btw) and plan your MLKJD escape.
To our new readers—welcome! The Back Bay Buzz delivers just the right amount of news and events for locals in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. No crime, no politics, no spam—just the good stuff. We scan newspapers, blogs, social media, business journals, and Google alerts so you don’t have to.

Earlybird Breakfast Burritos Opens This Saturday in Costa Mesa

A.M. Torpedo was my nickname in high school…
Earlybird Breakfast Burritos lands at the LAB Anti-Mall in Costa Mesa on Saturday, Jan 17 (10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.), bringing founder Scott Slater (yes, the Slater’s 50/50 guy) back to his O.C. roots with one-pound, tightly wrapped A.M. torpedoes. Taking over the former Barbonzai space and joining neighbors Nook Coffee and Goodtown Doughnuts, Earlybird’s lineup hits the classics and then some: the Bacon Bird (eggs, tots, bacon, guac, salsa roja), Carne Asada, Savory Sausage, Spiced Soyrizo, Eggie ’n’ Cheesy, and the Firebird (fried chicken, spicy garlic sauce), plus breakfast sandwiches and bowls if you’re skipping tortillas. Costa Mesa also gets an exclusive: Earlybird to-go drinks like Dirty Boba, Thai iced tea, champurrado-style chocolate lattes, turmeric-ginger lattes, and horchata. Opening perks: the first 100 in line on Saturday snag a free burrito; the first 25 on Sun, Jan 18 and Mon, Jan 19 get one too. Regular hours start Sun at 7 a.m.
PSAs:
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Closures: City halls and public libraries in both Newport Beach and Costa Mesa will be closed on Monday, January 19 in observance of the holiday. Trash pickup schedules will likely be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.
