Hello Back Bay Blooms, happy Tuesday.

We thank you for your patience, we decided to give our staff the day off for Easter Sunday, so today’s post is a day late. After a gorgeously sunny Easter weekend, this week brings a possible smattering of rain in the forecast as we enjoy slightly less busy streets and parking due to spring break. This becomes less and less true the closer you get to the shore.

To our new readers—welcome! The Back Bay Buzz delivers just the right amount of news and events for locals in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. No crime, no politics, no spam—just the good stuff. We scan newspapers, blogs, social media, business journals, and Google alerts so you don’t have to.

Toast is Now Nosh Bar in Costa Mesa

Instagram post

Well that was fast…four months after announcing the closure of Toast, the team behind Toast Kitchen and Bakery has finally pulled the curtain back on their newest project, Nosh Bar, taking over the original Toast space at 1767 Newport Blvd as of April 6th. While the big sister restaurant moved to a larger home, this new spot feels like a homecoming for the crew, bringing a fresh, high-energy neighborhood vibe back to the building where it all started.

Led by Ed Lee, Nosh Bar is designed to be that perfect middle ground between a high-end eatery and your favorite local hangout. It’s the kind of place where you’re encouraged to linger over a table full of shareable plates and creative cocktails. The menu leans into bold, global flavors, offering everything from their famous Ube French Toast and Thai Chile Chilaquiles to a lineup of signature burgers that are already getting people talking.

Right now, they are keeping things intimate with dinner and drinks running daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. They don’t take reservations, so it’s strictly a walk-in-and-grab-a-seat kind of spot, which only adds to that spontaneous, community feel. If you’re a fan of their legendary brunch or looking for a new weekday lunch haunt, stay tuned—those expanded hours are set to roll out in the very near future.
